Supported Living
For individuals who require continual access to support, Step-A-Side Care can offer supported living tenancies. This service is ideal for those who would benefit from having a fully-qualified staff member on premises, 24-hours a day to help with living skills, becoming part of the local community and accessing services as part of an ongoing programme striving towards ever increasing independence.
'Willowside' is a 5-bedroom house situated in a quiet cul-de-sac within walking distance of the centre of Coleford offering supported living tenancies to 4 young adults with varying degrees of learning disabilities and other associated complex needs. The ground floor bedroom has been adapted to provide wheelchair access with an en-suite wet room.
An enabling, supportive and stimulating environment is offered at 'Willowside' in which Service Users can live a happy and fulfilling lifestyle. Our strong emphasis on person centered planning brings out the best in people, widening horizons, becoming more confident and promoting forward thinking.

Supported living – the key differences to residential care
It is often questioned how supported living differs to residential care. Here's how:
- Housing comes first, as extra care residents have their own self-contained homes, and legal and tenancy rights underpinned by housing law. This is a clear distinction between extra care and residential care accommodation
- Extra care provides self-contained homes set within a housing development, which might also provide shops and community-based services such as health care.
Supported living offers a more independent living environment and only as much care and support as residents might need, when they need it; rather than the longer term care offered by residential care services
